Be Successful FinanciallyPosted by By Mark Woodcock on: 2005-06-19 02:26:00
To be successful financially you need a budget, it’s the backbone of financial success. Developing a realistic budget is the easy bit, but many people find themselves in trouble when they don’t stick with their budget! The necessary day to day managing of your budget is not very interesting, but for those who can stick to their budget on a long term basis, will succeed and live more comfortably than those who don’t. Planning your budget does not have to be boring but you do need to have some goals. Try and set your goals out as targets to be met, this will give you a sense of achievement each time you meet your target or goal. Most young people find it very difficult to imagine what they will be doing when they are 65 let alone how much money they will have to be able to live on. If you are a person who finds it difficult to save, try setting yourself short term goals like saving $50 each month, you’ll soon find you “don’t miss it”! After say six months increase this to say $75 and so on until you can save what you set out in your budget. Of course for people with no income this will not be easy to do, so you need to set yourself different goals, for instance, don’t spend coins! If you buy something for a quarter, break a dollar, then put the coins into a jar each day. This may not sound like very much but you’ll be surprised at how quickly your savings will reach $100! What should you do with your $100 when you have reached your goal? Most of us have credit cards with balances still to be cleared, why not use it to pay off some of the balance. This will make real earnings on your $100 because you won’t be paying high interest charges and compared with the small amount of interest it would earn in a savings account you would benefit greatly. These are just a couple of examples you can use in sticking with your budget. By being disciplined and organized and constantly working toward something you really want – no matter what that is, you will always stick to your budget.
