Finding That Work At Home Job - A Job In Itself

Posted by Charles Fuchs on: 2005-08-23 22:07:08

The trend of corporate America creating work at home jobs for telecommuters is growing, which is good news for those of you who are looking to do your work in your pajamas every day. Technology has made the work at home job more appealing to both bosses and employees, though it does not mean the trend has hit the mainstream, so a work at home job can still be hard to find. So prepare yourself for some hard work.

The most likely place to find a work at home job is at your current place of employment. It may take some convincing, but you could discuss a proposal to turn your position into a work at home job. You could start off slowly working at home one or two days per week and eventually allowing you work to be completely done out of your home. Remember, most telecommuters did not get hired to work at home, the position just evolved into a work at home job. Also realize that many companies require that you live close to the main office or have the ability to travel to the corporate headquarters periodically.

Freelancing is another way to get a work at home job. A freelancer is someone who is hired on a contractual basis to do work for specific companies. However nice it is to be your own boss, you need to remember that there are no company benefits offered and you need to be able to handle running and being responsible for all the aspect of owning your own business. However, this is the fastest growing work at home job available to almost anyone.

Also, realize that finding a work at home job takes time, and it will require a lot of patience. Sometimes it is beneficial to build up certain skills in the areas of writing, computers, graphic design, and more. The more skilled you are, the easier it will be for you to find a work at home job. These telecommuting jobs are highly sought after, so you need to make yourself marketable and more aggressive than the competition. This also means that you have to have a great resume or cover letter.
