Hello Arlene, Bad Hair Day?

Posted by By Lance Winslow III  on: 2005-06-17 19:32:45

Arlene is just under Hurricane Status and could increase in speed. The winds are at 60 miles per hour and the storm is moving at 14 knots. It is dumping huge amounts of rain on Florida. Many Gulf Oil Platforms have been evacuated. Pensacola Beach is under mandatory evacuation as of 4 pm Friday.

Many residents in the Pensacola Beach are still living out of FEMA Beach Trailers. Many homes have still not been rebuilt since Hurricane Ivan made landfall there in almost a Direct Hit of where Tropical Storm Arlene is expected to hit. Hurricane Ivan pulverized the Pensacola Beach area and all those who lived thru it are still shaken.

Currently the wind speed limits for the bridges there are 50 mph winds, anything more than that and the causeways and bridges are shut down to prevent trucks from tipping over off the bridges and cars being blown off the bridges as the hydroplane. Many parts of Florida are getting severe and heavy rains while some areas are not getting hit. Florida currently has a sales tax holiday for those buying Hurricane Supplies, which will end on Saturday.

Arlene will make land fall tomorrow and it could speed up by then. The point of landfall will be between Pearl River and Panama City, however the deluge of rain will be felt well into Louisiana and all but Jacksonville FL. You can expect rain all the way through WV, GA, AL and parts of SC, NC, VA, TN and KY. No need to buy a lift raft yet, this is a little storm compared to the flooding of Ivan.
